Most of the systems we install use a wet scrubber of one type or another. Wet scrubbers are designed to provide efficient contact between the polluted gas and a scrubbing liquid resulting in the liquid removing ("scrubbing") the pollutants from the gas stream.

Some of these scrubbers are generic in nature Counter-current packed towers
Cross-flow packed towers
Sieve tray scrubbers
Venturi scrubbers
Eductor venturi scrubbers

Some of these utilize proprietary technology

  DynaWave® froth zone scrubbers
Odorgard™ scrubbers
Aeromix™ venturi scrubbers

Counter-current Packed Tower Scrubbers

  • Vertical tower configuration
  • Contains a bed of Tellerette® tower packing
  • High efficiency gas absorption (>99%)
  • Low pressure drop
  • Small footprint
  • Simple, low cost, trouble free design

Cross-flow Packed Tower Scrubbers
  • Horizontal tower configuration
  • Contains a bed of Tellerette® tower packing
  • High efficiency gas absorption (>99%)
  • Low pressure drop
  • Handles moderate solids loadings
  • Minimises headroom required
  • Fan direct on outlet – minimises ducting
  • Suitable for multiple beds
  • Good access for maintenance
  • Kimre pad scrubbers for fertilizer service

Sieve Tray Scrubbers
  • Vertical tower configuration
  • Contains a number of perforated trays
  • High efficiency gas absorption
  • Particle removal down to 5 microns
  • Less prone to plugging than packed towers
  • Low liquid-to-gas ratios
  • Can use low volume once through water

Venturi Scrubbers - Conventional
  • Primarily for particle collection
  • Moderate efficiency for gas absorption
  • Gas and liquid pass through a narrow throat
  • Turbulence created provides gas-liquid contact
  • Particle collection down to 0.5 micron
  • Fixed and adjustable throats
  • High pressure drop/high energy use
  • Higher throat pressure drops increase fine particle collection
  • Can take a number of forms

Pumpless Venturi Scrubbers
  • Gas flow vertically upward through the venturi throat
  • Autocirculation of the liquid by the gas and gravity
  • No spray nozzles or pumps required
  • Particle collection down to 0.5 micron
  • Slurry concentrations up to 30% w/w

Eductor Venturi Scrubbers
  • Use high pressure, high volume liquid flow to create the motive force
  • High liquid to gas ratios
  • Good for very low volume gas flows (e.g. tank vents)
  • High turndown capability
  • Good for very fouling service (no internals)
  • High efficiency gas absorption achievable

In designing systems using the above scrubber types we have available the resources of Ceilcote Air Pollution Control. Ceilcote are one of the leading USA companies providing a broad range of scrubbing systems based on the above scrubber types, and have been doing so for over 40 years. Some of the specialist systems that Ceilcote have developed over this time include:

  • Emergency chlorine scrubbing systems for major liquid chlorine storage facilities
  • NOx scrubbing for low temperature NOx applications, typically from metal finishing operations
  • Ethylene oxide scrubbing for emissions from sterilization operations using ethylene oxide
